About three weeks ago, my husband and I went on a mini vacation with some friends to St. Augustine. It was absolutely amazing! It was just a small getaway but so worth every penny. We had great food, saw beautiful sites, and plenty of laughs.
St. Augustine is one of the most charming cities I have ever seen, and the vast amount of history in the town is incredible. To list just a few things we visited: "Castillo de San Marcos", the original "Ripley's Believe it Or Not!", "Flagler College", "The Floridian" restaurant, and "Crucial Coffee".
Here are some pictures of the wonderful things we saw.
We also bought plenty of things!
One of our purchases was a special hot sauce that is made right in St. Augustine. Every time my husband visits he takes some home, so that was a MUST for him to do again! My husband had wanted to do something different this trip though. He wanted to go to the farm that actually produces the hot sauce instead of purchasing it at the store. We drove around, and around until we finally realized that it would not be possible. The farm we were searching for is actually someone's HOME, and not open to the public. So off back to the store we went.
I was also on my own quest, to purchase SOAP! Obviously its not just any soap, its 100% organic and so delicious for your skin. My husband had brought it for me as a souvenir from one of his trips to St. Augustine, and I was in desperate need to re-stock! The only problem is he really didn't remember where exactly the shop was located, so we walked until I found it! My favorites are the Oatmeal & Sandalwood, they smell great and they have their own benefits. I also purchased for my mom & mom-in-law. There are so many different products and scents that its hard not to want to purchase the entire store! For any of you interested, they do ship! Here's their site "Hickory Ridge Organics"
There was also a small shop of herbs & teas. I had recognized the brand from a gift my mom gave me earlier in the year, which was a "smoked salt." It was absolutely amazing, so I knew that the rest of their products would have to be just as delicious. I went in and found the most delicious tea! I cannot get enough, but because it was a little pricey and far, I will have to ration my drinking so that it will last me quite a while!
The last important thing we searched for was an ornament. I know its kind of odd to purchase a christmas ornament in August, but I there is a reason to this madness! Typically, people buy different things as souvenirs (like plates, spoons, albums, frames, mugs, shot glasses, t-shirts) but our thing is ornaments. We began by purchasing an ornament for every place we've visited since our honeymoon (not that long ago I know), but it gives us something to track our trips, and during Christmas our tree will be fully personalized! I'll give you a preview around Christmas time! This is the one we purchased, we try not to buy them too cheesy!
